Henley Four Oaks: continuous hospitality

Reception Four OaksBordje Four Oaks

s a base for exploring the western part of the river Thames the Henley Four Oaks Caravan Club Site turned out to be a good choice. Within 15 minutes walking distance of the cosy town of Henley-on-Thames public transport is very convenient and within easy reach. The small railway station offers trains to both Oxford and London.

The town itself is a nice place to stroll around with a beautifully situated pub serving good food along the river bank adjacent to the ornate stone bridge. There are also many shops and art galleries. Henley-on-Thames is well-known for the famous Regatta and every summer in July this international rowing event attracts thousands of visitors over a five-day period in which spectators watch more than 200 different races. Worth a visit is the local River & Rowing Museum. The galleries here are not only dedicated to rowing, but also give the comprehensive history of the River Thames.

The Henley Four Oaks site offers all the facilities you would expect from an organization like the Caravan Club. The sanitary block is in impeccable condition, the pitches - grass and hardstanding - are spacious and the park is well maintained.

At this campground we were welcomed by very helpful wardens Marilyn and Michael Wiseman (photo right above) and their assistants. At the reception they also offer a modest camp shop with fresh products from the local quality butcher. As an amateur chef at home warden Michael has built a tub containing herbal plants close to the reception, which the guest are invited to use freely.

Talking about hospitality…
